Dato Haji Azmir

Dato’ Haji Azmir Jaafar is the Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia. His journey with McDonald’s began in 1993 as a management trainee. Dato’ Haji Azmir pursued a degree in dietetics and clinical nutrition at the University of Georgia, USA, followed by an MBA from the University of Bath, UK.

Dato’ Haji Azmir became Managing Director of McDonald’s Malaysia in 2005, where he accelerated restaurant openings and franchising before moving to McDonald’s China to expand the business there. In China, he led the opening of over 1,100 restaurants in five years, revamped 60% of the restaurants with a new design, launched 500 McCafes, and tripled Drive-Thru locations to over 250. He also managed McDonald’s operations in the Middle East.

In 2015, Dato’ Haji Azmir returned to McDonald’s Malaysia as Managing Director to lead the company through a change of ownership to Reza Group from Saudi Arabia, making McDonald’s Malaysia a 100% Muslim-owned company. 

As the Local Operating Partner, Dato’ Haji Azmir has been instrumental in developing business strategies and steering the company’s direction. His focus on team spirit, quality of service, talent development, and community engagement has yielded significant growth. Under his leadership, McDonald's Malaysia has expanded to over 370 restaurants nationwide, with continuous sales growth and increased customer numbers annually.

Dato’ Haji Azmir is also the President of Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia (RMHC Malaysia), a role he has proudly held since 2017. RMHC Malaysia is a non-profit organization with the mission to create, find, and support efforts that directly improve the health and well-being of underprivileged children in Malaysia.

Dato’ Haji Azmir himself has personally contributed to RMHC Malaysia’s efforts by donating more than RM500,000 through his foundation, Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad, which aims to provide assistance to communities in need across his home state of Negeri Sembilan.
